The expectations are low and often when the children show any bit of struggle or resistance the parent takes over.
Children are glorified for minimum effort and overly praised, rewarded and bribed - External Motivation
Children feel like it is not worth to do things right because they know the parents will take over and complete the task.
You may hear things like:
- You do it!
- I can’t do it.
- I don’t want to do it.
- I don’t care.
- I am not going to do it.
- I won’t do it.
- You can’t make me.
Refusal Behaviors may look like:
Stubborn, tantrums, hitting, crying, yelling, saying - NO, etc.
Sometimes - kids get a false sense of self importance as they are indulged and praised
