So ... you may be an Over Accommodating Parent?
Helping our kids, guiding them and showing them how to do things is our job...
This can also be referred to as:
-
Over Parenting
-
Over Functioning
-
Over Bearing
-
Over Permissive
-
Over Managing
-
Over Indulgent
Basically, it often comes down to a few reasons:
It is easier
It is more time effective
I don't want to see my child fail
I don't want to see my child comfortable
I don't want to see my child struggle
I don't want to see my child frustrated
I don't want to see my child unhappy
I don't want to see my child get hurt
However - the opposite effects often happens -
we can rob our kids from the opportunity to be able to handle
stress, frustration, struggle, unhappiness
Over-accommodating parents tend to buffer kids from situations kids often create themselves
When we change our behavior as parent to accommodate to make life easier for one child it often makes it more difficult for the rest of the family
